Immersive cultural experiences celebrate diversity, drive social cohesion, and fuel economic growth.

Casa de Abuela, translated as “Grandmother’s House,” is an initiative of the North Shore Community Development Corporation and the Punto Urban Art Museum. It will honor the diversity of Salem’s Point neighborhood with a unique cultural experience to foster social connection, engage local leadership, and draw in visitors.

A Taste of Home
Casa de Abuela will replicate a home typical of the Dominican Republic with simple wooden walls, a tin roof, and shutter-style wood windows,  inviting visitors to participate in an experience familiar to many neighborhood residents.
The Art of Storytelling
Public art, a lively street fair, and other neighborhood-building initiatives have positioned the Point as a vibrant hub for the community to gather and share stories, celebrating residents’ Latinx and Dominican cultures.

Culture as a Catalyst for Community Development
With a high percentage of immigrants living in the Point neighborhood,  Casa de Abuela will strike a critical chord of investing in and honoring diverse communities and their backgrounds, cultivating understanding, empathy, and pride through art and experience, and supporting the local economy with greater attention and traffic for the neighborhood.
