Better Malls, Better Suburbia

In the Fall of 2016, Team Better Block partnered with Starwood Retail Partners, and over a dozen community organizations to create the ‘Art of Living Locally’. The events reimagined the mall as a place for the community with
visual art, fitness, markets, performance art, and locally source food.
For this project, the team was challenged with an uniqueproblem: How do you create places of social gathering
and promote healthy living in shopping malls? How do you bring a community together in an informal way, to see
familiar and unfamiliar faces, somewhere civic discourse and community connections can happen? The tea joined its forces with ‘Art of Living Locally’ initiative and experimented several ways to reimagine shopping malls of the future.
The Mall at Wellington Green and Starwood Retail will receive the Best Customer Experience Initiative award at the World Retail Awards in Madrid, Spain this April
